AMPEX (Suitcase)

Ampex recorders are well known as some of the best built and highest quality American professional reel tape recorders. The Ampex Electric Company of Redwood City, CA was the premiere manufacturer of tape recording equipment following WWII.

Model 1260

This magnetic tape recorder was engineered to play at two standard operating speeds, 7 1/2  and 3 3/4 ips. 3 3/4 ips is recommended for voice and other long recordings, while the 7 1/2 is used for music and other high fidelity sounds. It utilizes three separate precision dual-track stacked heads for 4-track playback, recording, and erasing.

Model 1270

This model provides the same operational features as the Model 1260, with the added feature of a self-contained 3-watt stereo amplifier-speaker system. This amplifier-speaker system provides flexibility and utility for stereo monitoring. In place of the output jacks featured on the Model 1260, the Model 1270 provides an additional connection panel containing a left and right channel external amplifier jack and a left and right channel headset jack.

Fine Line F-44 Series

This model is a 4-track stereophonic and monophonic recorder. Rather than being mass-produced, the recorders in this series are individually optimized at every stage of production to allow for maximum performance.
